Unfortunately, there is a high risk of new enlarged blood vessels forming after the surgery. If this occurs, then repeated treatment for macular degeneration are needed in order to keep the loss of vision under control. There are also cases in which an individual will still lose their vision after having macular degeneration surgery. In other words, there are a small percentage of individuals who do benefit from the surgery, but there are also a number of individuals who dont.
